If you’re like a lot of folks out there and think vision boards are just a bunch of mumbo jumbo, then think again. Vision boards are the real deal, and there’s strong evidence to back them up.
Taking the time to selectively curate your dreams and transform them into a physical display, not only prioritizes what your goals are but brings them to life. It’s as I always say, if you think positive thoughts, you can have positive things. It is amazing what can come your way if you just stay positive (like the time Alli and I almost missed our flight out of the country).

Talk to any life coach or successful entrepreneur and the majority will tell you the same thing: visualization is one of the most powerful tools at your disposal. According to the best-selling book The Secret, “The law of attraction is forming your entire life experience and it is doing that through your thoughts. When you are visualizing, you are emitting a powerful frequency out into the Universe.”
Visualization is one of the most powerful tools at your disposal.
Visualization Advocates
One of the biggest advocates for the law of attraction and the pursuit of happiness is none other than Will Smith. He credits his positive thinking as the key factor in achieving happiness. Smith’s advice to anyone looking to achieve a life of happiness is to “make a choice, just decide what it’s going to be; who you’re going to be; and how you’re going to do it. Just decide and then from that point, the universe is going to get out of your way.”
Kobe Bryant, who stands among the best basketball players of all time, told everyone when he was growing up that one day he would be an NBA All Star. And man did he see that dream come true. He publicly praises the practice of visualizing himself making each shot in his head before games as a major factor of his success on the court.
Focus on You
One of the greatest pitfalls that plague our society is the tendency to compare the worst of what we know about ourselves to the best assumptions we make about others. The truth is, other people’s lives are never as perfect as our minds make them out to be. You will be so much better off when you:
- Forget about what the rest of the people around you are doing
- Focus on visualizing exactly what it is you want to achieve
- Start living a life that pushes you in that direction (yeah we know, easier said than done. But, the first step is just to take that first step!)
Believe in Your Dreams
The key to visualizing and harnessing the power of the law of attraction is to align your thoughts and emotions with the actions and results you are looking to make. If you tell yourself that you can travel the world and build a lifestyle around staying fit, giving back to communities, and helping others to do the same, but don’t believe it, those doubts will come out as emotional reactions that only get in the way of making your goals a reality. Think of it like trying to climb a tree with a pack of monkeys tugging at your pants and hanging on your back… it doesn’t work too well.
One great strategy for making sure you don’t run into the trouble of setting goals that you don’t actually believe you can achieve (yet!) is to start with general manifestations, that with a little hard work, you know you can accomplish (like taking the time to exercise every day). From there, you can create a snowball effect of achievements as your goals grow and become more specific. However, the first step is to create a clear picture of what your goals and dreams may be. What better way to do this than by creating a captivating vision board to guide you through your visualizations.

Alli and I keep our main vision board on the wall right in front of our bed. That way it’s the first thing we see when we open our eyes each morning. Ours is filled with inspiring elements and goals that make both of us feel good like epic hikes, travel, music festivals, and tasty foods. Seeing our board daily, particularly when we first wake up, immediately sparks happy vibes and brings to life the vision and goals we have for ourselves. This way, our minds associate those happy vibes with the daily reminders we set on the board like “live abroad next year,” “take pride” and “exercise daily”. Since we started using vision boards, we have found that we live a much more purposeful and intentional life and have begun to take massive actions toward reaching our goals. The first big one we are about to cross off is “live abroad next year.” We’re about to set off on a year long exploration through SE Asia. Stay tuned!
